The Pelican flight is a Big Air competition (jumping competition) that takes place at the so-called The Pelican Briefcase (at the hotel complex/lobby bar). The Pelican flight is more of a ”session” and folk festival than a strictly elite competition. The name comes from the classic ”Pelican jump” - a large snow jump that is built up just below the outdoor seating area, allowing the audience to sit with a drink in hand and watch the skiers fly by at close range.

Notification

To be done at the Sports Information desk in the lobby. For minors, a parent's signature is required. The competition is free to participate in.

How does the competition work?

  • Format: There is usually a Jam Session. This means that riders have a certain amount of time to jump as many times as they want.

  • Assessment: Judges often look at a combination of difficulty, style (steeze) and landing, and progression. There are usually classes for both skiing and snowboarding, and sometimes a separate junior class.

  • Subpoena: There is loud music, an announcer and often very good crowd pressure. It's not uncommon to see costumes or more spectacular ”old school” tricks.

Competition rules

  • Minors must wear a helmet.
  • Everyone is encouraged to wear a helmet for your safety.
