map

New for this year are mountain maps in scale 1:25 000 (2 map sheets) that we created together with Gokartor. The maps have more information and better resolution than previous years. There are various trails marked on the map, note that these can sometimes be difficult to notice in the terrain, especially if you only cross the trail. The level of detail varies slightly on the Swedish and Norwegian sides, where rocky/steep terrain is better marked on the Swedish side. Oak distance (the height difference between two contour lines) is 10 m.

Maps for day 1 will be distributed on Friday morning and for day 2 on Friday evening. It is up to the competitors to draw in any changes.

Mountain safety

Do not take any risks. After the tracks, there are passages of precipices, jokkar, glaciers and snowfields. The weather can quickly change the mountain. Sub-zero temperatures, snow, rain, storms and fog can make certain route choices unsuitable.
BAMM is a running competition. If you find yourself in a situation where running has turned into climbing up vertical surfaces, you should make a new choice for your own safety.

IN CASE OF ACCIDENT

Keep the team together!
If something serious happens: Stay calm, take care of each other, get help from other teams/help other teams.
Alert mountain rescue (112 Sweden and 113 Norway). Inform officials. The safety plan for the event is designed to:

  1. You run in teams and can look after each other if something happens.
  2. Be able to call for the attention and assistance of other teams.
  3. Teams carry equipment to bivouac on the mountain and take care of minor injuries.
  4. On the course there are some manned controls which have a telephone connection to the race doctor and/or to 112, the mountain rescue service. They also have extra dressing material.
  5. In order for the teams not to feel pressured to arrive at the night camp or goal at all costs (in order not to be searched), we have introduced the rule that searches take place the next day at the earliest.

ATTENTION! It is important that teams that break their participation in the competition not goes home without notifying the competition management.

How timekeeping works

Timing with a sports ID

SportIdent is the system we use for punch control and timekeeping. It is an electronic punching system where each participant carries a small ”punching stick” - the SI stick which contains a so-called. RFID chip. This stores the times and control codes for punching and finishing by punching in punching units. All punching is confirmed by light and sound signal, no signal = no punching. Punching takes about 1 second, usually less. All punching units look the same but have different functions: empty, check, control and target. Each team member gets a SI stick to be mounted around the wrist with a bracelet that we provide. This should be done before the start.

Before take-off

Before the start, the SI stick should be emptied of old stamps. This is done in a emptying unit which is located near the start. Emptying can take many seconds, wait for sound and light signal. When entering the starting area, everyone must punch in a check device which checks that the stick is empty, sound and light signal = ok, no signal = empty tray.

During the competition

Along the track, everyone should punch in the controls control unit. We will check that team members do not stamp too far apart, see the rules. The devices are mounted on wooden sticks together with an orientation screen and a pin clamp. If no light and sound signal is received when stamping, the SI unit does not work properly and the pin clip must be used. Stamp in the map.

There have also been cases where the SI unit is constantly beeping. In this case too, the pin clamp should be used when the unit is not working.

Finish line

At the finish you punch in a finish unit. Then the time is stopped but we would like you to proceed to the reading unit without delay, especially on Saturday when our speaker wants your final time as soon as possible. The reading unit is connected to a computer that reads the SI stick and we get a check that you stamped correctly and what time you got. After the competition, the SI stick must be returned.
