Welcome to the outside. The mountain is waiting for you.
Lacing up the Björkliden hiking boots is opening the door to a timeless adventure. Here, hiking is not about performance or counting kilometers - it's about breathing. When you walk in absolute silence, you get close to nature; you hear the distinctive call of the grouse, smell the damp mountain heath and discover the small, perfect miracles along the trail.
A perfect day in the mountains doesn't require weeks of planning or heavy packing. All you need is a backpack with a hot coffee thermos, some good coffee, an extra layer of clothes and a curious mind. Around the corner at Hotell Fjället, trails await you that offer everything from peaceful forest walks to magnificent summit climbs. Pack an analog map and compass for safety in your backpack, and bring binoculars or a magnifying glass to get really close to Arctic life.

Rallarkyrkogården and Tornehamn - a journey through lush, historical mystery
Time required: 2-3 hours.
Marking: White/blue markings on tree trunks and signs.
Effort: Light
The road to Rallar Cemetery
To walk here is to walk hand in hand with history. The path winds through a magically lush mountain birch forest where the sunlight filters through the delicate foliage. The peaceful sound of small, hidden waterfalls and streams can be heard everywhere. When you enter Rallarkyrkogården, you are enveloped in a deep, beautiful peace. Here lie the fates of the people who built the railroad at the turn of the last century, and here lives the legend of the fabled Svarta Björn. Can you find her grave?
How to get there
- Start at the hotel.
- Follow the cottage road or the asphalt road down to the railway station in Björkliden's village.
- Go over the railroad at the crossing and turn immediately left. At the edge of the forest you will find an information board and sign for Rallarvägen.
- Follow the trail for about 3.5 km until you reach the cemetery, which is on the left above the path.
- If you want to experience the beautiful Tornehamn church, continue straight ahead along Rallarvägen for another 1.5 km.
- Turn around and take the same way home.
Adventurous addition
Over the bare mountain home
Time required: 3-5 hours
Signalization: Blue-white signs on Rallarvägen, red trail crosses up towards Kratersjön.
Want to turn your hike into a loop with epic views? Follow the path to Rallar Cemetery. Instead of entering through the gate, follow the outside of the fence up to the railroad. Cross the tracks with great care! On the other side, a path awaits you that takes you straight up the forest slope towards Kratersjön (about 1.5 km). From there, follow the Kratersjön trail backwards to the hotel.
7 km round trip
Crater Lake
Time required: 2-3 hours.
Marking: Red trail crosses (starting at the right side of Bathing Lake).
The road to Lake Krater
This tour takes you quickly up to the total freedom of the bare mountains. Up on the plateau, the hardy mountain plants creep along the ground, and there's a good chance you'll see reindeer grazing peacefully against the sky. When you arrive at Kratersjön, you'll be greeted by smooth, sun-warmed stone slabs - the ultimate place to unpack your coffee. On a clear day, the view of Lapporten and the dramatic Norwegian mountains is so beautiful that it tugs at the heartstrings. Is the early summer day warm? Then Lake Badsjön is waiting to give you an unforgettable, refreshing dip.
Please note: In case of poor visibility, do not deviate from the path.
- Start at the hotel and take the steep gravel slope up to the golf course.
- Follow the gravel road uphill for about 1.5 km to Badsjön.
- Then follow the path on the northern (right) side of the lake. After another 2 km you reach Kratersjön and its welcoming shelter.
- For a longer hike, turn north (right) at Kratersjön and hike 1.5 km down to Rallarkyrkogården, cross the railroad carefully and take Rallarleden home.
3 km round trip
Silverfallet - The waterfall that flows into Torneträsk
Time required: Approximately 1 hour.
Marking: Unmarked, but very clear paths and roads.
The road to Silverfall
This is one of Björkliden's absolute gems. You follow the wild journey of the jok Rakkasjohka down to the gigantic Torneträsk. The landscape changes dramatically as the water plunges into a deep, narrow canyon. At Silverfallet, you'll be greeted by a unique beach covered in smooth, rounded rocks that the water has patiently polished over thousands of years. Dipping your feet or taking a quick, ice-cold dip in the crystal-clear water here is like a renaissance for the soul - perfect for the non-swimmer!
Be careful if the ground is wet or if it has rained, the rocks can be slippery.
- Walk from the hotel out towards the slalom slope and take the path at an angle over Teknikbacken.
- The path leads you into the forest to the large wooden hut, Lavvon. Walk past it straight down towards the jok. Do not cross the water, but turn left and follow the edge of the jok downwards. When you reach the lift houses and the helipad, walk out on the asphalt road for about 150 meters.
- At the crossing (where the bridge is), turn directly down along the edge of the stream on the right side of the bridge. Follow the clear path under the E10 down towards Torneträsk.
