Aurora Off-Road – Northern Lights by Snowcat

Experience the Northern Lights from the mountains above Björkliden.

Climb aboard a snowcat and leave the roads behind as we journey into the winter landscape. Your local guide will take you safely into the mountains, sharing stories and insights about the area, the Arctic environment, and the Northern Lights along the way.

Inside the snowcat, you can sit back and stay warm and comfortable as the landscape rolls by. When we find a good spot, we stop and step outside into the crisp Arctic night.

Take a moment to look up at the stars, breathe in the cold mountain air, and listen to the silence around you. If the conditions are right, the Northern Lights may appear above the mountains—a natural spectacle that is always different and never quite the same twice.

After spending some time under the night sky, we return to the warmth of the snowcat and make our way back to Björkliden.

This is a laid-back way to experience the Northern Lights and the winter mountains, combining an off-road journey with time spent outdoors in the Arctic landscape.

• Start time: 9:00 p.m.

• Duration: Approximately 2 hours, plus pickup and drop-off

• Minimum age: 12 years

• Language: English

• Pickup: Available from all accommodations in Abisko Östra and Abisko Tourist Station

• Group size: Maximum of 15 guests

• Guide: Professional driver and local guide

• Important: Dogs are not allowed inside the snowcat.

Please note

Warm clothes

Although you'll stay warm and comfortable during the trip, we'll spend time outside when we stop to look for the Northern Lights. Warm winter clothing, winter boots, gloves, and a hat are recommended.

The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, and sightings cannot be guaranteed. The route and stopping locations may vary depending on the weather, snow conditions, and visibility. Your guide will always choose the safest and most suitable location for the evening.
