Historical hike on bare mountains and Rallarled

This tour starts along the easy-to-walk Rallar Trail, which served as a material route during the construction of the Ore Line over 100 years ago. The trail takes us through lush mountain birch forest and rippling streams to the Rallar Cemetery, where many of those who toiled during the construction of the Malmbanan rest, and the guide tells us what life along the rails was like at the turn of the last century. From the cemetery we then make our way up the mountain where the weather will hopefully allow us to take a much-needed break, and maybe even a dip in Kratersjön, before continuing with a lovely hike back to Björkliden!

Available: Thursdays and Saturdays, July 2-October 3, 2026

Historic hike across the open mountain landscape and the Navvy Trail

This hike begins along the well prepared trail Rallarleden (the Navvy Trail), which served as a supply route during the construction of the railroad over 100 years ago. The trail takes us through lush mountain birch forests and past babbling streams to Rallarkyrkogården (the Navvy graveyard), where many of those who endured the hard work of building the railway now rest. Along the way, your guide will share stories of what life was like along the tracks at the turn of the last century.

From the graveyard, we continue up onto the open mountain, where the weather will hopefully allow us to take a well-deserved break and perhaps even a refreshing dip in Kratersjön, before enjoying a scenic hike back to Björkliden!

About Activities

Good to know

Each activity has a level of difficulty described below. We always adapt the pace to the group to ensure everyone has a great experience.

Relaxing: this is not exhausting at all, on the contrary!

Slow pace: Can be compared to a light walk. As a participant, you can often adapt the effort to your own level.

Moderate: This level of exertion requires a little more from you as a participant. At this level, it is more often a matter of endurance rather than great physical effort, but we recommend a normal level of fitness.

Demanding: This level often requires both willpower and higher physical fitness. We recommend that you talk to our knowledgeable staff in the sports shop if you are unsure.

Quite a challenge: This level requires a lot from you as a participant. You should be both strong and confident behind the brow bone - at this level we will always ensure your suitability before completing the activity.

Depending on the activity, breaks may or may not be included, but we can always make sure to take a break if you need to.

Once booked, the activity will be entered into our system and you will receive a confirmation of your booking. The booking confirmation will give you more information.
