A Litter Cleanup Day for the Mountains and Future Generations

Date and time: Saturday, July 4, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.

Location: Pub Rallaren.

For whom: Guests, staff, locals, and everyone who loves our mountain world!

Welcome to a legendary and meaningful day at Björkliden, where together we’ll give our unique mountain wilderness the love it deserves. We combine a good cause with pure, unadulterated enjoyment of life!

  • We'll start with an inspiring conversation about our Arctic environment
  • Let's join forces to clean up trash in the mountains
  • End the day with a real community celebration: an outdoor bar, a sizzling muurika, music, fun outdoor games, and a well-deserved toast!

As a thank-you for helping to protect the wilderness, we’ll provide light snacks, non-alcoholic beverages, and a limited-edition anniversary pin* into the backpack for every full trash bag.

*To give more people the opportunity to receive a pin and help keep the mountains and nature clean throughout the year, each person may pick up one pin upon turning in at least one bag of trash.

Today's Program

1:30 p.m. – Gathering, motivation for cleaning, and mingling

We’ll meet on the porch to pick up cleaning supplies (gloves, bags, and litter pickers), and you’ll have a chance to apply mosquito repellent. Be sure to check out our flyers on display explaining how the Arctic cold acts as a time capsule for trash.

2:00 p.m. – Inspotalk: Nature’s Hidden Primordial Power

We settle in on the balcony for an exciting live conversation with Hans Nilsson from The Swedish Society for Nature Conservation in Kiruna. We’ll talk about what makes the biology around Torneträsk so unique, how trash is preserved in the cold, and share inspiring success stories that show just how much our local efforts actually do for the climate.

2:30 p.m. – The Big Rallar Cleanup (Trash Pickup, 2 hours)

We spread out across the area, along the roads and in the parking lots, to clear away what has accumulated over the winter. Every helping hand counts!

4:00 p.m. – The outdoor bar opens & Muurika barbecue

We’ll take the trash we’ve collected to be sorted, pick up our anniversary pin, and then it’s time to celebrate! Our chef will fire up the grill and treat all participants to hot dogs (of course, there are vegetarian options!). There will also be chilled beer, wine, and soft drinks for sale.

4:30 p.m. – Cleanup Party & Music Hangout

Let's raise a glass to our hard work! Out on the porch, we'll set up a barbecue, drinks, and some great music, and we'll bring out kubb and outdoor Jenga for anyone who still has some energy left.

6:00 p.m. – Does the event end (or continue…)?

That wraps up the official Rallarröjet event for now, but if the sun is shining and the atmosphere is great, we’ll of course keep the outdoor bar open longer than that!

Good to know before the day begins

Clothing for Different Weather Conditions:
We’ll tailor the event to the Arctic weather. If the sun is shining, we’ll fill the veranda with extra lounge chairs. If the mountain wind is howling, we’ll move the entire event—the lecture and the after-party—inside to the cozy Pub Rallaren.

Everything is included:
All you need to bring is a cheerful attitude, clothes suitable for the outdoors, and maybe a wallet if you want to buy a treat at the bar afterward. We’ll provide trash bags, gloves, and tools.

Make a difference all summer long:
Rallarröjet kicks off a summer of caring. Can’t make it on July 4? Starting July 1, you can pick up trash on your own during your hikes and pick up your anniversary pin at the front desk afterward. To conserve the Earth’s resources, you may only pick up one pin throughout the entire year.
