Welcome to Björkliden and Hotel Fjället!

Welcome to Björkliden - one of Sweden's most classic tourist destinations. Already at the beginning of the 20th century, travelers started coming here via the newly built Malmbanan, attracted by the mountains, the vast landscapes and the feeling of freedom. They were pioneers in a then almost unknown part of the world.

This legacy is something we are proud to cherish. Since 1926, we have been creating memorable experiences for our guests, with the ambition to continue to be a place that feels genuine and authentic - characterized by tradition, care and a unique atmosphere.

Here you will find a free zone for both body and soul, all year round.

We hope you have a wonderful stay and enjoy your time with us!

Things to Know During Your Stay with Us

We want you to have as magical and relaxing a time as possible here in the mountains. Here is some practical information to make your stay smooth and comfortable!

Your Sleep and Well-Being

Quiet and peaceful after the mountain adventure: To ensure that all our guests wake up well-rested and ready for a new day in the mountains, we ask that everyone help keep noise levels low and considerate after 22:00.

Completely smoke-free rooms: All of our hotel rooms are non-smoking. We ask that you refrain from smoking in your room or near an open window, as the smoke can easily be drawn back into the room.

Are you traveling with your four-legged friends? The hotel rooms are completely pet-free to ensure everyone’s comfort and to accommodate guests with allergies. If you’re traveling with a pet, we offer our cozy, pet-friendly self-catering cottages instead—please contact the front desk, and we’ll be happy to help!

Fresh mountain water straight from the tap: You don't need to buy bottled water! The tap water in your room is of the very highest quality, ice-cold, and tastes fantastic after a day outdoors.

Housekeeping and Amenities

To conserve environmental resources, we don't clean the rooms daily as a standard practice, but we'd be more than happy to do so if you'd like!

Would you like cleaning services? If you'd like your room cleaned and your bed made during your stay, we'll of course do that at no extra charge. Just let the front desk know by the evening before!

Longer stays: If you stay with us for five nights or more, we'll automatically come by to give your room a thorough cleaning and change your bed linens halfway through your stay.

Extra towels and amenities: Do you need new towels, more toilet paper, or other amenities? In the hallway outside your room, you'll find a cart filled with supplies—just help yourself to whatever you need!

The Right of Public Access, Common Sense, and Mountain Etiquette

The Right of Public Access, Common Sense, and Mountain Etiquette

The golden rule of the Right of Public Access: ”Do not disturb, do not destroy”

Leave no trace: Take all trash home with you, including paper and food scraps. Because of the cold Arctic climate, it takes years for nature to break down organic waste.

Tip: Be sure to read our article on decomposition times, which we wrote in collaboration with NSD.

Become a Mountain Hero – Get a Pin! If you come across someone else’s trash along the trail, feel free to pick that up, too. Pick up some bags and gloves at the front desk, and when you turn in a full trash bag, you’ll get a cool reward pin to put on your backpack!

Respect wildlife: Always keep a safe distance from reindeer and other animals. During the calving season (April–June), they are especially sensitive.

Leash Law: Dogs must be kept on a leash in natural areas from March 1 through August 20.

Stay on the trails: Hike on the marked trails to protect the sensitive mountain environment. Use the boardwalks when passing through wet areas.

Camp Responsibly: Camp for no more than one or two nights in the same spot, far away from houses. Choose a durable surface, such as gravel or tough grass, rather than delicate moss.

Fire Hazard and Water

Fires: Be extremely careful with open fires, especially when it is windy or the ground is dry. Use a camping stove or designated fire pits whenever possible.

Fire Ban: Always check to see if a fire ban is in effect in the area. Feel free to download the "Brandrisk ute" app or check the crisis information map for the latest information.

Mountain Water & Hygiene: Much of the water in the mountains is clean and drinkable, but boiling it is always the safest option. If you need to relieve yourself in the mountains, do so far away from water sources and dig a small hole that you cover up.

Planning, Safety, and Local Regulations

Prepare properly: Always check the weather forecast on SMHI or Yr.no before heading out. Tailor your hike to your own ability, and let someone at the hotel or a friend know which route you plan to take.

Pack smart: Always bring a paper map, a compass, extra warm clothes, and a fully charged phone (preferably with a power bank).

Check the specific rules: Keep in mind that national parks and nature reserves often have their own, stricter rules that take precedence over the general right of public access. Check what rules apply to the specific area you plan to visit.

Parking space

Parking is free if you, as a guest, register your car at the hotel front desk. You will then be permitted to park in the hotel parking lot, the cottage village parking lot, and the Rakkas parking lot at the campground reception.
