But on Friday evening, everything changed. A tragic accident occurred, and we lost one of our participants. The joy that had filled the air was replaced with despair, sadness, and tears. It was a moment we never imagined could happen. Our thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of the deceased, and we continue to grieve with them.
In the months since the accident, we in the BAMM organization have taken a step back to reflect. We’ve evaluated our processes, visited other races, and considered how we can make our event not only safer but even better. Now, we are ready to move forward. Registration for BAMM 2025 is open.
New Safety Measures for BAMM 2025
We are introducing small but significant changes to enhance safety and improve the competition experience:
- Emergency blankets (mandatory for both participants).
- Two pairs of gloves (mandatory for both participants).
- Mandatory windsock/bivy bag (for BAMM 30 teams).
- Course time limits: No team may remain on the course after 20:00.
- Tracking and timing: Each team will be provided one Si-Pine and one GPS device by the organizer. Personal Si-Pines will no longer be permitted.
- Pre-race meeting: Optional but recommended in-person meeting on Thursday to cover weather, packing, and safety updates.
- Mobile phones: Required for both participants.
- Powerbanks and charging cables: At least one set per team.
- Medical information: To be displayed on the back of each participant’s race number.
- Tent identification: Number tags for team tents.
- Waterproof packing: All mandatory equipment must be stored in waterproof bags.
These updates reflect our commitment to continuous improvement, ensuring that BAMM remains a challenge that prioritizes both adventure and safety.
We thank you for your trust, understanding, and ongoing support as we move forward together.
