Skiing in Björkliden

Championing Sweden’s third greatest vertical drops, top tier snowfall and Scandinavia’s most magnificent views, it is no wonder Björkliden has become a legendary winter sports resort. The most distinguishing features however, are the challenges and experiences we can offer both for enthusiastic novices and daredevil veterans. We update open hours and lift status daily.

Versatile skiing

Choose from 23 pistes that range from green to black or find your own path in one of the many off-piste trails. Whatever you feel like, you’ll find it in connection to our over 8,000+ meters long lift system. And you should know that there are rarely any long queues at our lifts.

Björkliden is suitable for both children and the more advanced and experienced skier who may also want to challenge themselves in the off-piste.

SWEDEN’S BEST BACKCOUNTRY SKIING AREA 2023

In the area around Björkliden and Riksgränsen, according to Freeride’s readers’ poll in 2023, you’ll find Sweden’s best backcountry skiing area. Here you’ll find classics like Vassitjåkka and Låktatjåkka. If you’re new to backcountry skiing, you can always join a guided tour with our skilled guides who will help you get started.

This is what Freeride says about the first place in 2023:

“For the fifth year in a row, the area Riksgränsen-Björkliden-Abisko takes the first place in the vote for Sweden’s best backcountry skiing area. Everyone who has ever visited the area knows why – endless days and midnight sun combined with vast areas and untouched nature. Congratulations to this fantastic area that once again took a relatively superior victory in this year’s vote.”

STATUS UPDATE FOR WINTER 2024

We have worked on maintenance and repairs for all 11 lifts in Riksgränsen and Björkliden. Our old workhorses have been significantly upgraded with new technology to enhance efficiency and reliability in our ski systems.

Riksgränsen

  • The angle lift has received a new drive system, increasing accessibility, reliability, and flexibility in operation. The most noticeable differences are the capacity in number of passengers per hour and the speed.

Björkliden

  • The Rakkas lift has also been upgraded with a new drive system, enhancing accessibility, reliability, and flexibility in the lift. The most significant difference here is a considerably “smoother” start and stop. A new snow groomer (Pisten Billy 600) compliant with EU environmental requirements Stage V for emission control.

Låktatjåkko

  • A new catski/snowcat replacing our old workhorse, which unfortunately retired last winter.
