Which class is suitable for me?

BAMM 30

Some mountain experience, basic orienteering in unmarked terrain, along or close to trails or natural landmarks, and often with terrain features to be captured at the controls. Despite being the “short distance,” be prepared for significant elevation gain and a substantial challenge. It often involves about 20-25km/day of running and around 1500 meters of elevation gain. If you can hike about 15-25 kilometers per day for 10 hours, then this is the class for you. A good class for those wanting to try this type of competition for the first time. We transport tents and sleeping bags to the common night camp.

BAMM 50

Good mountain/nature experience. It places higher demands on your orienteering skills, mostly without trails or paths, using “major features” (mountain peaks, lakes) as landmarks. This is the class for those with good fitness levels seeking a tough challenge. Participants carry all their equipment themselves. Participants in this class are often out on the course for 4-7 hours/day and often cover 30-35km/day. Refer to previous elevation profiles if you want to prepare a bit more.

BAMM 70

Requires excellent fitness, mountain experience, and orienteering skills. We recommend completing BAMM 50 or participating in similar events before attempting BAMM 70. This is the class for those seeking a very tough challenge. Participants carry all their equipment themselves. Participants in this class are often out on the course for 7-10 hours/day.

On day 2, there are also recreational classes. Recreational classes are designed to allow as many people as possible to participate on day 2 even if the team does not complete day 1. Choice of distance is made in consultation with the race director, but you can choose between the distances of 30 km or 50 km.

The course length is as the crow flies. The distances are divided into the classes men, women, and mixed.

HOW MANY ELEVATION METERS CAN I EXPECT TO RUN IN 2024?

Elevation metres Saucony BAMM (2022)

BAMM 30: 937 + 1410 = 2347 elevation meters
BAMM 50: 1810 + 2320= 4130 elevation meters
BAMM 70: 2590 + 2960 = 5550 elevation meters

Elevation metres Saucony BAMM (2023)

BAMM 30: 947 + 641 = 1588 elevation meters
BAMM 50: 1889 + 1655 = 3544 elevation meters
BAMM 70: 2032 + 1966 = 3998 elevation meters

For those wondering how much ascent this really is, you can compare it to Hammarbybacken in Stockholm, which has 93 meters of elevation gain. In other words, it’s going to be a real elevation party during this year’s competition.
