Spring break in Björkliden!

Season premiere in Björkliden Feb 6-7

It is finally time to kickstart the season in our magnificent mountain world! On February 6–7, we are opening the gates for an unforgettable opening weekend filled with fantastic skiing, community, and a premiere party.

The first ski slope is opening!

For the first time ever, we’re opening Teknikbacken already in December! Thanks to our snow preservation project from the 2025 winter season, we can now kickstart the season earlier than ever before.

Starting November 11, you can purchase your ski pass for the 2026 winter season – the rest of the ski area opens on February 7, 2026.

THURSDAYS IN RAKKASKÅTAN

This autumn, we welcome you to the warmth inside the timber walls. Here, the dinner is as much about the atmosphere as it is about the Northern flavours. You are invited to an intimate three-course menu where the entire meal is prepared in front of your eyes over the crackling open fire.

THE NORTHERN LIGHTS ARE HERE

You know that feeling when the darkness finally returns after the midnight sun? Well, we’re there now, and that means the Northern Lights season is here to stay! We’ve already seen the first green veils dancing over Lapporten and Lake Torneträsk. It’s hard to find a better spot, with so little light pollution and those vast views. Keep your eyes peeled!

WELCOME TO ANOTHER GOLF SEASON!

Hello fellow golfers! We are so happy to finally welcome you to the golf course here in Björkliden, even though this year’s season start is a little different. Unfortunately, the winter has been unusually harsh on our course, which has resulted in a late start and some challenges with the greens. But we are working incredibly hard every day to get the course back into top condition!

SJ NIGHT TRAIN – EARLIER TICKET RELEASE

SJ has now released tickets for travel over Christmas, New Year’s, and the winter sports holidays. You can now book SJ’s night trains for trips to Björkliden and Riksgränsen until March 8, 2026.

PRESERVING THE SNOW IN BJÖRKLIDEN

The climate also affects our ski resort in Björkliden. While we still experience snow-secure winters, we’re seeing greater variations in snowfall amounts and timing between seasons. This winter brought heavy precipitation, and by the season’s end we had 22,000 m³ of snow in Teknikbacken. We’re now preserving that snow over the summer for the 2026 season. By storing the snow, we aim to secure our opening date and ensure quality, slopeside skiing—regardless of weather conditions.

Visit Riksgränsen during spring break!

Forget manicured slopes and queues at the children’s lift. Riksgränsen is for those seeking something different. There is no artificial atmosphere here – just real mountains, bottomless natural snow, and terrain that has set the standard for Swedish freeriding for decades. During the winter break, “Gränsen” transforms into a meeting point for those who live for skiing. Here, it’s not about how many runs you can fit into a day, but the feeling of every single one. Located 200 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle, right on the border with Norway, you’ll experience nature unlike anything else in Sweden. Explore legendary runs, find your own lines off-piste, or enjoy vast, sweeping expanses under a sky that often blazes with the colors of the polar night. Once the skis are tucked away for the day, a unique community awaits. At the hotel or the historic Meteorologen, like-minded souls gather to relive the day’s best runs in a setting where history is etched into the walls.

Okay, you can stop waiting. The Northern Lights season has kicked off for real! It’s now the green, dancing lights are starting to appear in the arctic sky. If you want to see them for real, without a bunch of light pollution, this is the ultimate spot. Our legendary location at “the end of the world” gives you a front-row seat to nature’s craziest light show.

METEOROLOGEN SKI LODGE OPENS FOR SUMMER SEASON IN RIKSGRÄNSEN

We are delighted to announce that the iconic Meteorologen Ski Lodge in Riksgränsen will open its doors for the summer season, welcoming guests from June 23rd to September 14th, 2025.

In winter, the Meteorologen bar is an exceptional meeting place for skiers and snowboarders from all over the world. The bar is designed like a cozy living room, making it easy to meet and mingle.

Meteorologen also welcomes external dinner guests. On some days, it may be fully booked, but you can check for available seats through this link.

Rooms & Accommodation

The resort in Björkliden lies beautifully at the edge of the mountain. Here, you can choose if you want to stay at the 4-star Hotel Fjället, be directly connected to the ski area in your own cabin in Kåppas Cabin Village, or at the distinguished Gammelgården Ski Lodge. For a large family, a group of friends or a company retreat, we recommend our exclusive log cabins in Solhyllan, and for an experience out of the ordinary, we recommend a night at Låktatjåkko Mountain Lodge. Since 1939, Låktatjåkko has been a popular travel destination among hikers and skiers, and for good reason-the mountain lodge is spectacularly situated at 1228 meters above sea level, in the col between two peaks and 9km away from Björkliden.

Snowcat to Låktatjåkko mountain lodge

During the winter season, one of the most classic ways to get up to Låkta is by booking the snowcat.

This is your chance to enjoy a magical view of the mountain as we safely roll up to the mountain station for a fika. The snowcat departs from Hotell Fjället every day from February 20 to May 3.

Get here by train

With SJ you can travel by night train from Stockholm all the way to Björkliden. Choose if you want to book a seat, or buy a ticket to sleeping car – the night train has two departures every day in both directions.

GETTING TO BJÖRKLIDEN & RIKSGRÄNSEN

By flight

By flight – The airplane departs from Stockholm and arrives in Kiruna after approximately 90 minutes, after which you need to go by transfer bus, train or car to Björkliden. The transfer between Kiruna and Björkliden also takes about 90 minutes; the total trip takes about 4 hours between Stockholm and Björkliden.

By train

By train – Step aboard the train in Stockholm or Gothenburg at night and wake up amidst the fantastic mountain scenery the next day. You will reach Björkliden by lunch time. VY runs the stretch between Stockholm and Björkliden, which takes approximately 18 hours. From the Björkliden train station, it is only a couple of hundred metres to Hotel Fjället.

By car

By car – Drive north on the E4, turn left at Töre and then take the E10 to Kiruna and Narvik. You will find us just before the Norwegian border.

BJÖRKLIDEN – A MOUNTAIN VILLAGE WITH ROYAL HISTORY

Few Swedish mountain resorts are entitled to the label ”classic”, and Björkliden is certainly one of those few. The first tourists arrived in the early days of the previous century. They travelled by train on the newly built railway and were pioneers in this, at that point in time, virtually unexplored part of the world. We see this as an important cultural heritage to cherish. We have delivered great experiences since 1926 and we strive to protect the small and genuine; with empathy, traditions and atmosphere; an oasis for body and soul; all year round.
